The Brisbane International Jazz Festival 2014 presented by Jazz Queensland features a stellar line up of local, interstate and International artists from 4 – 8 June, 2014 at Brisbane venues including the Queensland Multicultural Centre, Brisbane Jazz Club, Queen Street Mall and JMI Live!

Opening night Wednesday 4th June award winning Queensland jazz composers Rafael Karlen, Andrew Butt, Louise Denson and Sean Foran showcase their talent presenting World Premieres commissioned exclusively by Jazz Queensland with financial assistance from the Department of Premier and Cabinet as part of Queensland Week. Four bands plus UK guest Julian Arguelles, one of Europe’s most inventive saxophonists paired with the emotive and textural sounds of the piano trio TRICHOTOMY explore and create exciting new work.

Two shows on Saturday 7th June feature the virtuosity of the Joshua Redman Quartet (USA) at the Qld Multicultural Centre with the creative genius of tenor saxophonist Joshua Redman leading his powerful quartet on a musical journey of inventive modern sounds.

At QMC on Thursday 5th June Finland’s sublime Jukka Perko Avara Trio fuse contemporary jazz and Finnish hymns with intelligent sensitivity and on the same night at JMI Live! legendary pianist and composer Mike Nock weaves his magic presenting two sets of adventurous creations with his masterful trio.

USA based pianist Barney McAll touches the heart with his finesse as soloist on Friday 6th June at QMC before joining the magnificent and mighty Julien Wilson Quartet.

Free concerts in the Queen Street Mall Friday 6th to 8th June feature Mike Nock’s Big Small Band, Julian Arguelles, Leigh Carriage Quartet the Paula Girvan Quartet and a host of emerging and established local jazz talent.

Sunday afternoon 8th June at QMC, 2013 National Jazz award winner Joseph O’Connor will take your breath away in a solo piano concert on the beautiful Kawai Shigeru Concert Grand and for the finale at the Brisbane Jazz Club Sunday night 8th June Julian Arguelles collaborates with Brisbane’s 17 piece Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra for a big band extravaganza to close festivities.
