JMI LIVE: JAMES SANDON & JAMIE CLARK [VIDEO]

Jazz Music Institute (JMI) is a higher education provider based in Brisbane, Australia delivering accredited courses in music specialising in jazz performance. JMI also runs a jazz club on campus open to the public every Thursday and Friday night called JMI Live. The sessions have been streaming live from Facebook and YouTube, reaching a broader audience – and creating an amazing archive of performances.

The club may be closed, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the gigs are still going ahead online, every Thursday.

For those who wish to support this great initiative – and help musicians keep making a living – the Institute has set up a donation page on PayPal.

This week JMI Live featured saxophonist James Sandon and guitarist Jamie Clark.

Originally from Perth, James Sandon is one of the most natural and talented musicians in the country. His sound oozes soul as well as substance, and has the rare combination of instrumental technique and natural melodic and rhythmic drive. Now based in Brisbane he is currently a lecturer in jazz studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University. James continues to perform internationally, nationally and locally.

Performing alongside him will be Jamie Clark, a guitarist, songwriter, composer, arranger and bandleader in musical endeavours ranging from jazz, rock, country, and folk to bluegrass, cabaret and music theatre.
Jamie has performed / recorded with many world-class artists such as: Katie Noonan, Kate Miller-Heidke, James Morrison, Kristin Berardi, Emma Pask, Frances Madden, Jamie Oehlers, Elly Hoyt, Vika and Linda Bull, Leah Cotterell, The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, The Ten Tenors, Carol Lloyd, Women In Voice, Topology, Mark Sholtez and many of Australia’s finest jazz players.

This is an extraordinary musical pairing that we rarely get to witness in action. As Sandon and Clark combine their talents for one night only, all viewers are sure to be treated to some delightful saxophone and guitar duo jazz that will send their isolation blues elsewhere.

Enjoy!
