JMI LIVE: LACHLAN MCKENZIE & BRENDAN ST LEDGER [VIDEO]

Jazz Music Institute (JMI) is a higher education provider based in Brisbane, Australia delivering accredited courses in music specialising in jazz performance. JMI also runs a jazz club on campus open to the public every Thursday and Friday night called JMI Live. The sessions have been streaming live from Facebook and YouTube, reaching a broader audience – and creating an amazing archive of performances.

The club may be closed, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the gigs are still going ahead online, every Thursday.

Lachlan McKenzie is a Brisbane based trumpet player, composer and educator. Throughout his career Lachlan has had the pleasure of performing with several of Australias Jazz heavyweights including John Harkins, Steve Russell, Elly Hoyt, Graeme Norris and Zac Hurren among others. In 2018 Lachlan released and toured his debut album Ruminations on a Theme featuring all original compositions for his quartet. In 2019 Lachlan performed at the Takatsuki Jazz Street Festival held in Osaka, Japan.

Brendan St Ledgers extensive recording and touring credits include some of the greats of Australian Jazz, Pop, Soul, Funk. The likes of Wendy Matthews, Marcia Hines, Steve Clisby, Lily Dior, Tina Arena, Glenn Shorrock and Christine Anu. He was twice selected to play in the Wangaratta National Jazz Piano Award and has recently returned to Brisbane after 26 years in Sydney.

The duet performed some of their favourite repertoire from the Great American Songbook and beyond.
