Barney McAll record development session at 58 Northsix/Metta Soundlabs

In his twenties, Barney McAll was already gathering attention for his groove-infused playing, performing with a variety a jazz and funk groups, and touring with popular acts such as Renee Geyer, Kate Caberano, and Vince Jones, for whom Barney also arranged and produced numerous albums. It was no surprise when he was lured to the Big Apple to join the Gary Bartz Quartet. As well as Bartz’s group, Barney plays with the Josh Roseman Unit, Fred Wesley and the JB’s, Groove Collective, and Kurt Rosenwinkel’s Heartcore. He leads his own bands M.O.D.A.S and his most recent group Sylent Running. He now also has a number of film scoring credits to his name.

Barney continues to visit and perform in Australia and collaborate with a number of Australian artists. He’ll be touring here with his Graft project for Stonnington Jazz in May.

He has produced many fine albums under his own name, and has recorded or performed internationally with many other musicians including Dewey Redman, Roy Ayers, Kenny Garrett, Maceo Parker, Jimmy Cobb, Eddie Henderson and Vernel Fornier.
