Phil Treloar recently contacted us here at AustralianJazz.net, asking if we would post this video of a piece he’s written and dedicated so his dear friends David, Melissa and Amelia Ades.

Of course we agreed – Phil is a longtime friend of extempore and Australianjazz.net – in all their iterations.

Becoming is dedicated to three deeply feeling, talented and devoted people, with whom I’ve had the great fortune to share friendship, David, Melissa, and Amelia Ades. Melissa, who is no longer with us, was a very caring person. Her penetrating and passion-filled art-work is acknowledged in Australia and found remarkable recognition in South-East Asia where, together with David and Amelia, she spent several years working and exhibiting. Her beautiful self and mighty contribution to life continue to benefit and enrich.

Becoming was completed in March 2004 and premiered, January 2006, at a contemporary music concert in Tokyo by Hisae Kido with members of Ensemble Craft. The present DVD recording is taken from a performance in Kanazawa, Japan, November 24, 2006, by Hisae Kido, flute; Miki Kido, clarinet; and Eri Yoshimura, piano.
