3 Questions for Gemma Farrell [VIDEO]

In these short interviews I ask musicians and composers, from various backgrounds, the same three simple questions about music.
  1. Why do you have music in your life?
  2. How do you make music?
  3. What excites you musically right now?

I will be presenting these once a week over the next few months with local, national and international musicians and composers.

In this episode I’m talking to Perth-based jazz saxophonist, composer and educator Gemma Farrell.

Gemma lectures in jazz studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), has worked as the education coordinator and assistant musical director at the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) and currently leads their Young Women in Jazz program.

She is also the founder and musical director of the Artemis Orchestra, a predominantly female big band which performs the original music of Australian women.
