A wonderful selection of local and interstate Jazz artists are bringing their unique flair and original vibe to The Memo St Kilda Jazz Summit including some of Melbourne’s finest jazz exponents covering styles from 1920s to the sounds of today.

AJN: Some think that a tribute to Vince Jones is long overdue and that the jazz community should gather and honour your contribution. What are your thoughts on that?
VJ: Give me a few more years to write some more songs before any tributes.
Artists include jazz legends Vince Jones, Peter Gaudion and Bob Sedergreen in one-off shows with some leading names joining their line-ups.
The roster does real justice to the ‘international’ part of its title, as it features musicians from four continents: Europe, Africa, Asia and, of course, our own little corner of the world.
The festival, a “cornucopia of music from across centuries and continents”, taking place at the churches, wineries and intimate spaces of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, opens on New Year’s Day.
what a brilliant idea it was to invite Jones to join the list of distinguished guest artists to record with students at Monash University’s Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music. What insights for those with the wit and empathy to understand that what was on the table was not a master-class in music or singing or anything so mundane. No this was much more important: a master-class in artistry, which is to say a lesson in life.
