Michael Pigneguy is back

It’s been a long time between drinks but musical expat Michael Pigneguy is extremely excited to return to Melbourne with former and new musical collaborators to perform at the Paris Cat loft on Thursday, July 27 at 8.30pm.

Since departing Australia in 2006 he has worked with musicians from across the globe and formed the group The Awakenings Ensemble whose debut album was recorded in Dubai, Doha, Melbourne and Perth. He has performed in Italy, Africa, Asia, and the US and has built a reputation as a sensitive yet exciting performer, arranger and composer with a particular interest in how artists from different cultures interact and create music together.

His passion for jazz and Latin music has expanded to include influences such as Oriental and Arab styles as well as contemporary influences which are fused together on his latest album Les Trois Scenes which is a continuous soundscape of over an hour in length.

The Paris Cat performance sees him joined by saxophonist Carl Mackey who was in Michael’s original quartet, bassist Sam Anning who performed with Michael in Abu Dhabi and Dubai as well as vocalist Chantal Mitvalsky and pianist James Bowers. They will present a program which features selected music from Michael’s albums as well as new works put together specifically for this show.

Line-up:
Michael Pigneguy: drums/leader
Chantal Mitvalsky: vocals
Carl Mackey: saxophones
James Bowers: piano
Sam Anning: acoustic bass
