Nic Vardanega releases Inverno

“Inverno is a collection of tunes I have written over the past few years that hold a common aesthetic. I’ve always liked the idea of a concept album and this album is a culmination of a deep interest in my Italian heritage and the colours and moods that winter brings to mind. This theme became especially prevalent to me during two northern hemisphere journeys I made in the winters of 2010 and 2011.”

This is how guitarist Nic Vardanega describes his debut release. ‘Inverno’ is the Italian word for winter and the inspiration behind the album which features eight of Nic’s original compositions. Fittingly it was recorded in the winter tranquility of the Blue Mountains in July 2014 and the result certainly evokes the feeling of both the landscape and season.

In his emerging career, Nic has played alongside many of Australia’s leading musicians including Mike Nock, Brendan Clarke, Andrew Dickeson, Dave Goodman and Richard Maegraith and has recorded with first call New York City musicians bassist Marco Panascia and drummer Ulysses Owens Jr.

Since completing a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2012, where he held a ‘Board Of Governors’ merit scholarship, Nic has worked extensively as a sideman and bandleader. He has appeared at many of the country’s leading festivals including the Manly Jazz Festival, Noosa Jazz Festival and Darling Harbour Jazz Festival.
